Copyright and reprint policies

Smart Medicine Journal is committed to protecting author copyright while promoting reuse of published content. For articles published in the journal, authors retain full ownership of the copyright without restrictions.

Authors grant the journal right of first publication and allow anyone to freely access, reuse, and disseminate articles with proper attribution under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license. This maximizes dissemination while preserving author rights.

Authors or third parties who wish to republish or adapt work published in Smart Medicine Journal in other sources must obtain permission from the copyright holder, following journal guidelines. This includes republication in books, magazines, other journals, or online. Reprints should credit the article's original publication in Smart Medicine Journal and link to the version of record. 

By upholding ethical policies on copyright and licensing, we safeguard author rights and promote responsible reuse of published medical research to best serve wider scientific advancement.

For all articles published in the journal SMART Medical Journal of Hong Kong, the copyright remains with the authors. The articles are published under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 open access license, meaning anyone can download and read the document for free. Furthermore, the paper may be reused and cited acknowledging the original published version. These conditions allow full fruition and visibility of the work while guaranteeing due recognition to the authors.

In exceptional cases, it may be possible to grant a different license for the items. If there are specific conditions (e.g., funding related) that prevent you from obtaining this license, please notify the journal editor during the submission process. The publisher may make exceptions at its discretion. Authors must obtain permission to reproduce any published material (such as figures, diagrams, tables or text excerpts) that is not in the public domain or owned by them. Authors should seek permission from the copyright holder (usually the publisher, refer to the imprint of individual publications to identify the copyright holder).
